The internet is the perfect place for celebrities to have complete anonymity, they can use any name, any persona. They can just be regular people for once.
I have knowingly chatted with at least three celebs, or people very closely related (famous spouse), but in situations where I was able to confirm their identity. Two of them I later met in person as a result of those chats (very cool).
I met another two in "moderated chats" where I couldn't chat freely. Which sucks. It's not real. They're there as part of their job and not really being themselves.
But unknowingly? Since I've been online for more than 10 years (I got this yahoo account in May 1998) I probably have chatted with more than a few "disguised" celebs.
I also kind of feel sorry for them, because if they get into an online argument over something the celeb would KNOW (like what movies he/she just signed on for, etc), if they reveal their identity it's unlikely anyone would believe them.
Or people who really are close friends with a celeb. They don't even have to be gossiping, but who is going to believe someone who says "Yeah, I know Tina Turner, she's my neighbor. She came over for a BBQ last week." That person is NOT going to be believed, even if it is the truth.
So, how many secret celebs do you think you've unknowingly chatted with? And have you ever had a suspicion that someone you were chatting with online was really a celeb?
And what do you think the chances are that one of the many silly peeps who will probably identify themselves as a celeb as an answer to this question... really is the person they say they are?
