How many times do you call back wondering whether you were selected for a job or not?

I applied at a retail store (I'm 17) and was called and went in for a 1st interview. When that was done I was told I would be called for the 2nd part of the interview.

Well all that happened on Thursday, June 5. So I waited a little over a week and just called back and talked to the HR manager (might have been just HR department I'm not sure.. but i asked for manager). I told her my name and told her when I had did the first interview and stuff and she was nice and said "ok we'll see if they 'chose to use' you".. then she asked for my name again and said she'll "let them know" (I dunno if she said 'them')

At the time of the interview there was about 6 other people at the same time and we all were 'getting' different positions and we were all told we would get a call back for a 2nd interview.. I don't know any of the other people so I don't know if they got a call. (everyone did the interviews separate.. not group interview)

So now that I just called.. what's next?
 
it sounds like they are trying to let you down easy/ they dont want to hurt your feelings or seem rude. they would have picked you by now. if you really want to fight for the job, you could go in yourself (its alot more effective to see face to face with the manager instead of over the phone, and its impressive towards the manager) then tell him / her that you would like to update your application and say that youre available for more hours. (that will gain you some bonus points) then call a few days later and see if the managers have reviewed your updated application.
