i have a five month puppy. how many times a day and how many times a week can i use it. will using the dog backpacks affect her growth?

I would probably see how much energy she has left after a walk without the backpack first. My dog was still very energetic after a 45 minute brisk walk. So I extended his walk to an hour with a stop at the park for some catch. This is usually enough for him. But if I didn't have the time for that I'd use the backpack. I wouldn't think it should affect her growth as long as it's not to heavy and strenuous for her.

You should definitely check with your vet before having your puppy carry any weight at all. If dogs are not supposed to go running for more than a half a mile until they are 18 months old, a backpack doesn't sound like such a bright idea to me.

In any case, for adult dogs, keep in mind that most can only safely carry 1/4 of their body weight in a backpack. Therefore, a 50 pound dog should not carry more than 12.5 lbs, including the backpack itself. You want to make sure the bags are carried over the shoulders and not across the back. Do some more research and make sure to check with the vet first.

i use a pack on my papillon in the summer. i put the cell phone on one side and keys in the other. she's fine until she talks to someone, then she can barely move. they feel so sorry for her having to work.

That's a good question to ask your vet - they would know based on your dogs breed, size, health, etc. I was told that an empty backpack could be used as often as you want - weighted should be built up over a period of time and only used occasionally.

Ask the vet for sure though.
