from the ex-military spouse? -----Okay let me see if I get this right under Oklahoma Law.----------
I marry a military member preferably an Officer because they make more money; stay married for say 5 to 6 years then divorce them. I get a nice divorce settlement, move on to another military member stay married to them for 5 to 6 years divorce them get a nice settlement, marry an enlisted person (they’re nice to) for 5 to 6 years and divorce them. Get a nice settlement.
-----Now here is where THE BIG MONEY starts rolling in
-----Military Spouse #1 was divorced when they where an O3 (Capt/Lt) but they are now retiring as a 05 (CDR/COL) he is happily married with kids. They haven’t heard from the ex-spouse in 8-12 years and the non-military spouse re-files divorce paperwork seeking a portion of the retirement/ retainer pay and gets 50% of the pay for the rest of the military members life. (Appox $1200 a month).
-----Military Spouse #2 comes up for retirement/retainer pay and when they where divorced the military member was an O2 (Ltjg) and where married for 6 years, but the O6 never married and applied himself and are now retiring only to find out they are being taken back to divorce court and the judge awards Appox $1500 a month from the military members retainer pay. They haven’t seen or heard from each other in 10 years. The NON MILITARY SPOUSE is now bringing home $2700 a month tax-free.
-----Military Spouse #3 a real nice Hard Working enlisted person puts in an average of 50-60 hours a week (an E5) and they have been married for almost 7 years now they had a few good years. The military member was gone allot fighting in the Iraqi and Afghanistan and gets hurt when an IED went off and severely burned his arm and legs.
He came back home expecting sympathy and gets a cold shoulder and heart ache, they are told I can’t stand the sight of your combat injuries they are so ugly, and is finally told they are getting a divorce. The enlisted person is now an E7 with 18 years in service and non-military spouse is awarded a nice settlement including alimony and when he retires she will receive 50% of his retirement Appox $800 a month. She also learns a year later that Military spouse is getting a VA DISABILITY and she wants her cut. She brings him back to divorce court and gets the lawyer and judge to call it discretionary pay and awards her an additional $600 a month.
Non-military Spouse is now making $4100 a month tax free from three different military husbands. She has never served one day in the military. She lives in a BIG nice house, drives a nice New CAR and has a nice job on top of that.
So who is receiving preferential treatment NOT the military member?
