The Phrase is: "Hope" is the thing with feathers.
The rest of the poem has a 8-6-8-6 syllable pattern, but this line has 7, according to me. Did I do it wrong?

i'd have to see the rest of the poem to really be sure, but not all poems have to follow a structure, that could have just been what the author of the poem wanted to do....but yes there are only 7 syllables in that line.

Hope is the thing WEARING feathers = 8

Hope comes complete with feathers = 6

Hope looks its best dressed in feathers = 8

Hope can't elope wearing feathers = 7

Hope is a query in white feathers = 8

Hope this helps...
