How many ride without the crash bar?

...... i was going to say something about wondering how often you actually get your scooter over far enough to scrape a crash bar in a corner
.. and then i saw that you ride a road glide & thought 'you know, maybe that actually could be a problem for'im if he really rides his roadie" !
...... but..... how would you mount the lowers ?

The first week I had my Ultra I had it on the ground 3 times while getting used to the weight and height. No damage whatsoever except to my pride. Without those engine guards I don't know if I could have picked it up by myself. With them on it's no problem picking it up.

I also don't like the idea of one of my legs being underneath that thing without engine guards if it goes down.

I took mine off my 07 SG... hit a deer 7 weeks ago and totalled the bike, when I went down the bike fell on my left leg at about 40mph... my left leg was beat up pretty bad but not broken... no road rash as I had my chaps on. I had lots of bruising and pain but I'm back to about 90% now... I think in the long run the crash bars probably would of made life a little easier for me however, my new 2010 SG will also have the bars removed for 2 reasons... I cant stand the way it looks with it and I cant reach them for highway pegs use because I'm only 5'7". So I guess I will roll the dice again and take them off.

I've had my front one off every since I decided to build new brackets and rear brake lever to move my floor boards forward 2 inches.

This summer I stopped on an off camber sandy/rocky "picture spot" in the mountains fully loaded with luggage and my wife and the front tire slid out!

The rear bar held the saddle bag off of the ground,my left leg held up the rest!

It was almost funny since we were stopped but I think I'm going to put the front one back on just in case my boot doesn't get as good a grip if it ever happens again!

Mine will stay on for sure. A couple years ago just outside my house at the intersection a guy on a scoot coming down the road got hit by a car pulling out. He said he saw it coming and slowed down and the car hit him square in the engine guard. Bent the guard pretty good but I shudder to imagine what his leg or even engine would have looked like if the guards weren't there.

Hello? Hello? Nobody home, obviously. When you "drag" a crash bar your tire has prior broken the friction patch it had with the road surface and you have already fallen down. It is not "dragging the bar," it is falling on the bike's low side and scraping along the pavement riding on the crash bar and preserving that side of the bike. I am willing to bet money there is nobody who can"drag the bar" and recover the bike so your example is meaningless. Come back when your parents allow you to play with their computer again.
