How many ride without the crash bar?

First thing I'm taking off my bike. It's dangerous. If you go into a turn and drag that thing it will lift your rear tire off the ground and then you're in the ditch or worse.
 
1st off .... If you can't take a corner without 'draging your engine guard' ... I'm think'n the engine guard is not what is dangerous. I can see scraping your foot peg first .. you'd have to be into a reallly aggressive lean to scrape the engine guard.

2nd ly ... If you ever do lay down your bike while travelling down the road .. THAT engine guard may very well save your engine, tank, fender etc from getting REALLY beat up ... not to mention your own skin. It's designed to hold the bike up a bit so any thing underneath it won't get damaged.

I wiped out on a bike once ... Had I not had an engine guard ... Well I can only imagine what would have happened to my leg because I pretty much road out the skid with my leg trapped underneath it.

THAT engine guard saved my leg ... not to mention the bike itself!
 
they only look bad on a upright bike or until the time comes that you say to yourself....

self, I really should have left the bars on to prevent the damage this drunken one nighter caused that jumped on my bike out of the blue....

I know it has saved my paint on several occasions. I love the twisties and my engine guard never hit but my floorboard brackets do all the time. Besides, where would I put my highway pegs that dramatically improve riding comfort????
 
lost count how many times those crash bars have spared me costly repairs from tip overs. Got my bike with the rear ones off, promptly bought some used units and put them back on the bike. The very next day after I put them on, I had a tip over at the beach and yup, those bars came to the rescue...again!
