I don't understand how there could be enough Pokemon Contests to provide entry for the hundreds of Coordinators, especially when it requires FIVE ribbons per Coordinator. In Ash's journey, both Advanced and D&P, coming across a Pokemon contest was extremely rare and a huge event that took about 10-20 episodes just to travel to, and each time they barely make it in and find out "oh no this is the last contest before the Grand Festival and I only have 4 ribbons!"
And I'm pretty sure all of the ribbons have to be obtained within that Region too. Did they just get a late start in the year both times?
