how many people do you know that are in jail now for committing heinous crimes of life?

Today I found out that another of my past acquaintances is in jail for extreme overkill murder and abuse of a corpse. What has happened to these people? 3 people, all civilians, in jail for life, for killing innocent people. 1 was even a girl!

I went to school with a guy who is going to prison for suffocating a his girlfriend's child. I think it was an accident, but who really knows.
