I am tired of us being "dominant"... We need to learn to live WITH other countries.
The world does NOT belong to the US.
There is more than one country on this planet.
Do people ever stop to think that MAYBE that is why we have the foreign relations problems that we have?
I wouldn't like a neighbor thinking that they were the only people that lived on the street or that they were the only people who knew what was best for everyone else on the street.

With five times our population and a country the size of our own, China will probably become the world's dominant power sometime later in this century. Beyond that, I wouldn't hazard a guess, because events are too unpredictable. Who would have thought in the year 1 that Rome would fall within a few hundred years?

That dominance is waning even as we speak, an inertia of dissolution that will continue and with certitude has for at least ~ 20 years. Witness the fears expressing now, from loss of jobs, careers, pensions, savings -- loss of gratuities once enjoyed; the failing of banks, bankruptcies and mergers of long iconic businesses. Witness the peculiar light and shadow that has come upon the scene, wrought from wrongs over the past 230 years, now intensified because we have now a person who will preside in the still most powerful office in the world, whose sensibility is unlike anything the USA has ever known and for which the Collective Consciousness can no longer take for granted is the sole model for life and living: hence those die-hard assumptions are waning, flagging from fears and thus speedily dissolving.
The president-elect is not yet even inaugurated, not even in office yet barely a week since becoming the president-elect -- has not even officiated his first acts -- and here we behold the dominant faction of this nation set in a queue of horror heralding an armageddon, terrified of a black president, a black man, to wit. Here's a man just elected for which only days have ensued, amid a dominant culture that has enjoyed the lion share for over 230 years. And here we have scores of thousands of citizens spewing invective already, daring to complain and grouse with untold ad hominems and non sequiturs -- and just plain old flat out Fear.
What a weak mind set, which is certain to undergo tremendous tests by reason of simple laws of causation. I do not hold that there is anything willfully vicious in the new presidency. There is absolutely noting evident to support his; only are there racist fears. Only that this nation is to undergo tremendous cleansing -- all will, no matter what race or culture he or she belongs to.
One need only bear witness to the AM radio talk shows, for just an hour or so, and one will hear in the voices of these conservative audiences and hosts who frequent and preside over, respectively, these shows, all the fears and outright confusion and nasty rhetoric; yet more telling, their awakening and denials to just how much and how long were their gratuities entrenched into their very psyches, and which can no longer be.
PollyAnna is in the intensive care ward and has not yet managed sit up again and enjoy food and drink.
In some peculiar way, what we see is a new if subtle turn on the Civil War left unfinished, for with the coming of a black presidency have tremendous racist expressions come to the fore like never before. The popular vote was telling in itself -- a virtual 50/50. On the other hand, this new presidency may well prove to be a godsend if the majority of the country, those who have enjoyed the power and privelege and assumpton of privelege, can manage to let go the old views and ways and realize their hold on power can no longer remain in charge with the same ways and influence as practiced before. That day is over. And there are the international sentiments that share this view.
How could anyone who has known, felt, and experienced the imbalance to this nation's dreadful history on human and civil rights not see that this pattern could not possibly have sustained without at some point reaching its now critical mass?
There is nothing in nature that does not reach its terminus at some point. There has reached a terminus of something as regards this nation. Now we have to bide our time and patience and good effort to witness just what that new model exactly is. Vigilance will become paramount to effect as will self-honesty to have...
