how many hp can i get out of my 69 dodge 440?

For an engine like that, you want torque. HP is great for bragging, if you have a tiny 4 cyl engine.

But torque is the force the moves the car. So it's really the one you want.

Otherwise, the height of your power, is based on the depth of your wallet.
 
I have the same thing in my 67 gtx...I put in the edebrock heads,509 purple camshaft,holley 850 carb ,hooker super comp ceramic headers with full on msd ignition...I gained about 60 hp....So i now have about 435 to the rear wheels...It,s really pretty easy to add some h.p. when you start out with 375 in the first place...Ma Mopar really underestimated the true h.p of their engines...They say this was for insurance reasons.....MOPARS RULE!!!!
 
it depends on alot of things... buy some closed chamber heads.. tat shud give u a extra 100hp.... ahhhh with everything else stock u shud get bout 400hp u cud get more... but the torque is what u need .... u can talk shit bout horse power but u can show ur shit with torque
