How many fish can I store in my 3 gallon aquarium?

So, we have this 3 gallon aquarium, and thusfar we have one Goldfish in it. Problem is it looks lonely, so we're wondering if we should bring another fish. The problem then is, is a 3 gallon tank big enough for more than one fish - we're so confused - could definitely use some help.
 
if your happy with your goldfish and aont want another tank than you can put a guppie in the tank with it but really a bigger tank later on may need to be in order but not for a couple months for a goldfish... my goldfish was in a 5 gallon for a year and a couple months and was just fine and acually seemed to maintain just fine and was happy as could be.

i later moved it to a larger tank and it doubled in size
