How many days are you allowed to miss in a school year?

Im just wondering how many absences are you allowed before you get held back? Is New Jersey different then other states?

even if you don't know about new jersey please if you know about any other states... i will be picking a best answer
 
i live in new jersey and in my school we can miss 15 before you have to either repeat the year or go to some type of hearing.
i'm not sure if it is the same for all new jersey schools though.
