It completely depends on what your individual body and metabolism is like. I have a very slow metabolism so I normally eat 1500 Cal per day but when I'm backpacking i'll eat almost 2500 per day. But I have a friend who eats 2500 normally and 3500 when we go backpacking! The general rule of thumb is 1lb of food per person per day. That is freeze dried and dried food. So you are both going to be carrying about 5lbs-7lbs of food. Some things that you can take are: ramen noddles (they're lighter) freeze dried veggies that you can get at your local health food store, hot or dry cereal like oatmeal and powdered milk, salami (which lasts forever) cheese, apples, hard tac (a combo of flour, water and vitamins) also freeze dried meats and beef jerky. You can go to a place like R.E.I and they have full freeze dried meals which can also be fun. Trust me, this stuff is going to taste AMAZING when your out on the trail. Make SURE you bring enough carbs and protein! you are going to burn a lot of calories and not getting enough can compensate your performance. Also, eat at least 3x per day, morning before you start out then lunch, whenever you get hungry, and dinner when you set up camp for the night. Also you can bring some trail mix to snack on during the day between meals. Make sure you do your research before setting out, this can mean the difference between life and death in a survival situation. Have fun!
