kill a leader? Say, Bush or Obama? I doubt that they would finish their broadcast day before federal agents swarmed the building, and Home Shopping Network got themselves another channel.

Yet many critics of Venezuela's president Chavez mention the denial of a license renewal to an opposition TV station as an example of his "dictatorial" and "anti-freedom" tendencies.

Are these critics aware that the station broadcast a call to KILL Chavez, the legally elected president of the country? And all that happened is that their license wasn't renewed - no one was even jailed.

Heck, in the U.S. there have been huge fines and threats of jailings over nipple slips during halftime shows.

Couldn't it be argued that Chavez's "censorship" is MORE relaxed than that of the U.S.? After all, the Venezuelan station was still on the air for some time after that speech - their license hadn't expired yet.

If, say, NBC or FOX broadcast a call to kill a leader, how long would they stay on the air?

Any guesses?
No, Garry, he did NOT. He submitted the changes as a public referendum up for vote, and when he lost the popular vote, he ACCEPTED it.

Does this sound like someone doing "anything for power," as we are told in the news?

I don't recollect getting a chance to vote on Bush's PATRIOT Act or Clinton's "Anti-terrorism" Act.

THOSE laws gave more power to the president.

the christian fundamentalists of US have been doing exactly this for a long long time or do you not wish to know this fact of life? Do you need quotes of the rantings and ravings threatening so many of their opposition?

correct me if Iam wrong. did not Chavez change laws so he could remain in power longer?
I think comparing the democracy of US and that of Venezula is apples and oranges.

If we had a Chávez, we wouldn't be in the fugged up situation we're in, because crapitalism would be highly regulated.

The US is the most heavily censored nation on earth. People live in fear if using the Freedom of Speech that successive US governments keep killing foreigners in the name of.

Hypocrisy is the only explanation.
