I go to the bathroom, she cries. I walk away, she cries. I put her in the crate when she can still see me, she cries. I pet my cat, she cries. She's soooo dependent on me! If she's not in my lap she cries! and when she is right next to me and I give my cat attention, she gets jealous and bites and growls at my poor cat! Right now she is in the crate, she can see me, and she's been crying for a half hour. Should I just let her out? How can I teach her to be more independent?
My puppy is almost 5 months old and I've had her for 2 1/2 months.

We got her from a family-owned pet shop who get the pets from local breeders.

I take her out with me a lot, so she's met and has been held by lots and lots of different people. She doesn't cry when being held by others if I am still in the room.

I do love and enjoy my puppy but I don't think this type of behavior is healthy for either of us. I've lost a lot of sleep over it, (for one), either from the sound of her crying from the crate, or from her constant kissing and moving about in my bed.

It Depends the age...
Normally if your puppy is already that dependant it still will be dependant for life, however it will get better, though it will never most likley be as close to anyone as it is to you.
Enjoy your puppy!
Dont worry about those flwas keep going on with petting your cat or going to the bathromm...?
The puppy will get used to it and realize you will come back.
Puppys grow up just like people do.

It sounds like she has separation anxiety. You need to take charge. I just am not qualified to give you much advice on this.

Some of these sites might help you with that, though I don't know about growling at the cat.
