How long will it take me to build up my stamina?

I am entering a mini marathon (10 k) I have just started my training - today actually! I have three months of training time. I am planning on doing 30 mins three times a week.

I tried to run for ten minutes today but I could only manage 6, however some of this was up hill. Alongside this, I am power walking for 20 mins. I also walk to work (25mins fast walking). I felt like I wanted to die today - I found it that hard! Will it get easier, is three times a week enough? I really want to try and jog this marathon. I don't drink or smoke and I eat pretty healthily.
