How long should it take to find an engine for a 2000 Ford Contour?

Hi all, I am wondering how long it should take for a mechanic to find this engine. A week-two?
He says he is looking in salvage yards etc.

I had the same problem with my 2000 Contour and it took a week to locate the engine, replace it, and have it back on the road.
