how long should i wait to take a test?

me and my partner are ttc, this is our first month 
previous to this, i was on the pill. as they say that your periods take a few months to get into a normal rhythm so i don't actually know when i am due on. my first and only natural period was 26th - 29th March. i think i ovulated on 8th april. i know it hasn't been that long since i had the first period (around 3 weeks) but when would i be able to test for pregnancy? i have had a couple of symptoms, such as being very tired, eating loads, feeling sick, wind and i also keep getting headaches. it seems like a lifetime ago since i was last on!
any help would be much appreciated!
