I've been exercising on a stationary bike for the past two months (4 nights per week), and have seen a remarkable difference in how I look and feel. However, I'm not sure if the exercise is safe or "pushing it" a bit. I ride a stationary bike for 55 minutes (with abundant water). During that time my Heart Rate (according to the bike, which may be suspect) averages around 160 beats per minute. I'm a 34 year old male, my rest heart rate is close to 65 beats per minute and the online calculator puts that under "Zone 4, 76%-88% Anaerobic".
This sounds good, and I feel great, but there's nothing on that calculator that says how long I should keep my heart at that rate. Is 55 minutes too long? Just right? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
