how long should a person train before a 900 mile bike trek?

For someone who isn't totally out of shape but doesnt work out all the time either. I myself am 140 pounds, medium build, 17 years. there's a couple other people i wanna bring along and they arent as fit as me. one is a forty-somethin adult male, the other is a young adult, a little older than me, female.

should we work out a lot? what would be the best exercises and muscles to target?

I want to plan on doing this next summer. do you think we can?

also, what would be the best things to bring, and how to prepare, and what to prepare for? what kind of clothes to wear?

please and thanks, anything helps. I've never done anything like this before... do you think it's too ambitious?
 
spandex, no crap food, train hard but rest so your body can repair your muscles, lots of cardio, hearts the most important muscle in the body,bring lots of water and carb foods,sugar foods will give you a bad crash, good luck
