I owe under $1000 to a company. I have not been able to pay it due to circumstances I won't get into. I got a call from a collector today saying if I did not pay in full today I would be served with a court date. The hearing would be taking place in a town thousands of miles away, where I used to live. A plane ticket would cost as much as the debt owed, so I clearly can't make the court date. She told me if I don't show up, I'll be arrested.
So, my question is, if I were arrested, how long would I expect to spend in jail?
PS: I'm not interested in hearing opinions on my debt, just legal advice on my question.
