Was it just recently for health reason or was it started at the beginning of time (I mean when Japan was a country)?

Thanks shelly b: I'm talking about Shasimi. Sushi is fermented figh, Shasimi is raw fish. These are two different dishes. I'm just thinking, if my theory is correct, that when the Japanese moved down from China they might have to eat raw fish somehow along the sea, because the Chinese people don't eat raw fish. For fermented fish, it has long been a tradition in China to eat preserved fish and so the same in most Asian countries until these days. One rather odd thing about Japan also is that they don't use spoon. Only the emperor uses spoon in the whole country, and the Koreans was making jokes that all Koreans can afford to buy spoon, but not the Japanese.
