How long does it take for Verizon to fully deactivate your service so you can...

...switch companies? I am planning to get the fourth generation iPhone coming out this summer, no specified date yet. As of now the iPhone is currently available on AT&T. There are wild rumors that the iPhone will come to Verizon very soon, but I want to switch to AT&T anyway because I am very dissatisfied with Verizon's Costumer Service.

Anyway, let's say the iPhone comes out June 10, 2010. I want to get it THAT day. When would I have to call Verizon saying to deactivate my service so I can switch companies that day? Or do I not even have to terminate my Verizon agreement? For example, do I just show up to AT&T saying I'm a Verizon costumer wanting to switch, and then they can take care of everything from there?

By the way, I am no longer under contract with Verizon, meaning that my two year contract for my current phone ended a few months ago, so I will not have to pay early termination fees.
