I would try to ride every day for about 20 min. To reduce leg pain you want to pedal at a high cadence 70-90 rpm's with a lite pressure on the pedals. Pedaling slow and mashing on the pedals will wear out your legs quickly. You want to take several min to warm up before you start trying to go fast. The more you ride the faster you will reduce your soreness but let your body tell you what you need.
I still get a little soreness after a good ride but it's just barely detectable and is telling me that I am getting stronger. Some lite stretching right after a ride seems to help.
