how long do you have to be in the military before you are eligible for the GI bill?

I have a buddie who has been in the air force for two years. There is a chance he will not pass his cdc tests, if he doesn't, there is also a good chance that he will be removed from service as he already has an ARI on his Record. so Im wondering if he is removed from service after his two year mark, will he be eligible for the GI bill benefits?
I'm pretty sure you cant get a dishonerable discharge for failing your cdc's also, ARI stands for Alcohol Related Incident
