How long do I need to wait to have sex after taking birth control?

I just got the Yaz birth control pills today. I started my period Wednesday night and my Doctor told me to start taking them on Sunday.
Oh and I'm 18 if that helps too.
How long until I'm safely protected on birth control? I don't plan on having sex with my boyfriend until its safe, and yes we are going to use a condom too just for extra protection.
But I would still like to know because we all know there are times when no one has a condom and you don't want things to just end ;]
The packet that came with the pills said it would take about a week for protection, but I'd like to hear from other people too.

Generally, you want to wait a full 7 days before having intercourse without protection. You should follow that - better to be safe than sorry (or pregnant...) :)
 
When i first started taking my birth control, the doctor told me to wait 7 days after i start taking the pills. I did and it was safe, so i recommend you wait 7 days after you take your first pill. That gives it enough time to completely get into your system.
 
If youre using a condom too then it should be fine within a week. I would wait a month, until you get the next pack just to be safe.
