How long do fishes sleep?

My fish has been sleeping for about a week now. He doesn't move and just floats at the top. He doesn't move even when I poke him. Im worrying that he is depressed, and I wondered if there was some kind of tank decoration or food that could help the problem. What can I do? I really want to see him swimming around again.
 
Some questions:
What type of fish do you have?
What kind of tank do you have? (filter, heater, etc)
Have you check the water parameters like ammonia, temperature, pH, etc?

And finally, so sorry, but is your fish breathing?
