How long did it take for your home pregnancy test to show positive?

My period is always heavy, it was meant to start on tuesday(2/12) but on wednsday and thurs i just got light spotting, not a red blood colour, a really pink colour, plus a little bit of brown spotting. And that's all i got. I took a test last night (friday) but it came out negative. Was it too soon to test? How long did it take for your test to show positive? Thanks
 
With my daughter I didn't get a positive until I was already 4 and a half weeks pregnant...so about 2 and a half weeks after conception. It was a very faint positive though.
 
I was expecting my period on the 18th of july and took a test on the 16th because i was having breast tenderness and mood swings and it came out positive..
