how long can i leave my baby inside the car and not get arrested?

My friend left her baby in the car for 10 mins and got arrested for it so I don't want to be in the same siuation and get arrested too, how long is it ok to leave your baby in until it is illegal, sometimes when i shop or meet up with my girls at the mall, i dont want to carrie my baby everywhere can someone tell me please this is serious
