How long can employee misconduct be reported by a former employer during a

background check? I was terminated in 1997 for misconduct in Washington State and I live now in California. I am interviewing for a job now and my concern is that the old misconduct will show up on a background check and I won't get the job. It was almost 14 years ago and I showed up to work under the influence of Marijuana. My employer had me take a drug test and everything. Like the scared and stupid kid I was I complied with the test instead of just quitting the job. Do I have anything to worry about or is there a statute of limitations on employee misconduct?
