How likely is it that this post-9/11 military-industrial structure might harm Americans?

the wiretaps, centcom databases factioning citizens as terror suspects, secret prisons, FEMA camps, corporate mercinaries, legalized torture, federalizing local police, merging police and military, gun confiscation, media censorship...just the tip of the iceberg
or is it improving our lives by leaps and bounds and we should be grateful to whoever makes those decisions?
