cool and damp is the dawn
as a fresh day clouds my head.
a stray sunbeam seems to
illuminate my breath.
i'm fonder of the first
than each one coming next.
fresh air fills my lungs.
blood occupies my veins
but self destructive tendencies
lie within my brain.
so i walk on a cloud of smog
on a downtown city street.
a cigarette dies on my fingertips
as an old one grabs my feet.
the sidewalks where i walk
within a nameless mass.
old and broken, it still persists
to suffocate the grass.
as a fresh day clouds my head.
a stray sunbeam seems to
illuminate my breath.
i'm fonder of the first
than each one coming next.
fresh air fills my lungs.
blood occupies my veins
but self destructive tendencies
lie within my brain.
so i walk on a cloud of smog
on a downtown city street.
a cigarette dies on my fingertips
as an old one grabs my feet.
the sidewalks where i walk
within a nameless mass.
old and broken, it still persists
to suffocate the grass.
