"carrier branded" by any network? I understand Apple demands almost full control over their iPhone but every other handset I know of (in North America at least) is branded by the network it's on. Blackberry's, Motorola, Palm Pre, all these devices have the company logo at least, if not custom software with carrier specific splash screens when the phone turns on.
How is it that Apple is the only company that doesn't have their iPhone
