how is it my phone can wipe everything on my memory card?

i have an e71 and recently its been doing silly things like having lines all across the screen at any time i want to use it but last night it had a full on paddy and after another session of lines everything on my memory card was gone and i cant understand how, ive checked it on my pc and theres nothing that was originally there on there at all
