how i learn about photography?

I dont wanna be a photographer..I bought a Nikon d3100 and I like to take a few nice family shots..should i buy a different lense or the one that comes with it is good enough for portrait? it comes with Includes the DX 18-55mm VR f.3.5-5.6 lens
Any website to teach me basic stuff..I have zero photography knowledge..thank you for your help
