How i can activate an used att Iphone from craigslist?

Time ago i was denied to get an iphone, i want to buy the iphone on craigslist (no unlocked) and go to att and activate it.
My question is if i will be accepted like first time customer with iphone in hand?
I am not att customer and i don't have any sim card, I want to buy an used iphone on craigslist and go to the att store and activate it, my question is if i will be accepted with iphone in hand, because time ago i was denied to get an iphone.
 
just put in your SIM card, and it automatically transfers the phone to you. Call At&T so they have on record what phone you have in case you have to call in any problems.
