how hot is too hot for a dodge rear end?

05 ram 1500 Quad 2wd. Rear end at hogshead gets too hot to touch. no loss of fluid , no noises. just Hot. Does anyone know what temperature range it should be in. 900 miles from home and a little worried.
Oil clean, not smoking, and not glowing, just too hot to touch.
 
I don't know the temp range but I do know that normal it would be so hot you would not want to put your hand on it and keep it there. I would check the fluid while I was under there feeling of it. Pull out the rubber plug and see if dope runs out or can you touch it by sticking in your finger and feeling down. Do not do this if it is glowing red or smoking.
