I have quite a collection I built through the 90's. When I stopped around 2000 it seemed like there was an explosion of new brands and types of cards, which I would think would lower value. And of course there was the steroid scandal and inflated statistics. Just curious as I've been away from the hobby for a few years now.

I think they have gone way down since the Internet has made them available to virtually anyone who has a few bucks and maybe doesn't even care about the actual history of the card or the game, unfortunately, and its just become another way to make a quick buck for the fly by night investors. I'm actually in the same boat as you as I have a lot of my time and money and effort into these cards, and unfortunately, my collection was worth a lot more back in the eighties, but since the Internet came around, I would estimate the same collection to be worth about only half as much now. The world wide web has many strong-points, but it has killed this hobby as far as I'm concerned.
