How has BRIC helped the U.S. switch to alternative energy?

Can anyone provide me with some good logic or actual facts on how BRIC (Brazil Russia India and China) helped us switch to alternative energy?
I get that they increased pollution, but what else?
 
Drive up the price for most fossil fuels including Coal, make it more expensive for Americans to buy for consumption, so the economics of energy really changes.
