How hard would it be to find a mechanic to fix a Mazda?

I am thinking of buying a "new" used 2006 Mazda 3. I live in a city of only 18000 residents and the mechanics around here are use to working on fords, chevys, etc. My question is; If I were to buy a mazda3 and something go wrong with it, could a mechanic around here diagnose and fix it? I heard that mazda is owned by Ford, so would a ford dealership be able to do repairs? I just don't want to buy a car, something go wrong with it, and the closest repair shop is 100 miles away. Thank you for your time!

Mazda isn't owned by Ford. They used to have a small stake in them, but no longer.
Although the Mazda 3 is made in Japan, it is somewhat close to being the same vehicle as the Ford Focus.

Your Ford dealer should be able to work on it. Or you could find an independent mechanic in the next town that would probably do it for a little less money.

Mazdas are pretty simple cars and should not be a problem for any competent automotive shop to do repair on. Midas, Meineke, etc... They're not like Audi's or Porsche's where you need a doctorate in automotive design to change a headlight bulb. :) I wouldn't even worry about needing to make lots of repairs. Mazdas are very reliable. Brakes, tires, and oil/fluid changes are probably all you'll need for a while. Good luck!
