If you are a full time starter in high school, you have a decent shot at making it to D3. For D1, figure on being a guy who dominates in high school - you are all-league, all city, all state, something like that. College coaches will have been scouting you since you were a sophomore or junior. If this isn't you, making a team in a D1 school, even a bad one, will be very tough.
If you just want to play, you will find that at D3, and even some D2 schools will have open try outs for "walk ons" (non-scholarship players). If you have some game and are coachable (i.e., you work hard, do what the coach asks, and don't complain) you have a shot to make a squad.
