How hard is AP History?

Okay, so a few days ago I got a list of honor classes I was invited to for next year, and on the paper I got a choice between Honors History and AP History. Next year I will be in 10th grade. A part of me wants to choose AP History over Honors, because one, college credits, and I'm very good at History (memorizing, just in History in general) but I'm afraid it will be far too hard and I'll greatly regret my choice.

How hard is it, honestly? Would it be something a fifteen/sixteen year old could handle? Should I even sign up for it, or just stick with honors? I just do not want to sign up for it and end up getting something like a C, or D, or even a F.
 
I'm in it right now and I'm fifteen, started the class when I was fourteen. I've had a solid A all year it's hard, though. You have to read, write, and memorize a lot. But in addition to learning facts and dates you have to know the importance of what you learn, how it relates to other events, how it relates to current events, etc. Also, don't half ass assignments because you'll regret it on tests and finals when you don't remember that time period because you rushed through it.

It was extremely difficult when I took it. Even those who were really into it and studied constantly normally only got a 2 on the AP exam. It takes a lot of dedication.

If you think you might have it in you but your not sure, check with our councilor. Often you can drop AP for the normal version of the class at any time, but your grade carry's over.

Expect a lot of reading, a lot of homework, and to be memorizing a lot of dates and details.
