I'm interested in buying an adult mountain bike.
What of the EZON gears they install?
Thanks

Please do not buy a Huffy unless all you are going to do is ride around the neighborhood.

For future reference, there are several types of bikes in the "mountain bike" genre:

a) The utility bike is a bike for doing nothing but occasional riding on paved surfaces. They tend to be very low quality and cost between $0 and about $180.00 and are found almost exclusively at discount stores like Walmart or at low tier sporting goods stores like The Sports Authority or Dunhams that don't take bikes seriously. They come in almost any format imaginable- no suspension, front suspension, full suspension, road bikes, BMX, etc;

b) The all-terrain bike or "ATB" is intended for riding on the road and offroad on smoother surfaces, perhaps up to a cobblestone path or lightly rain rutted trails- as you go up in price they become more rugged, lighter, and more rider friendly. They usually have front suspension with up to 80mm of travel. Some have rear suspension as well but it is not very effective. Keep in mind that suspension is to keep the wheels on the ground, not for comfort. Pricing is usually seen between $220 and $800;

c) The true mountain bike, often called a cross country (XC) or all mountain are rarely seen for under $800. They feature well engineered frames and suspension, can be hardtail or full suspension, and have reliable and functional drivetrains. As the name implies, these bikes tend not to be friendly for on roads, and are best suited for loading it in your car, driving it to a trail, riding it, then when you are done putting it back on your car and driving home. You can modify these bikes to be easier on the road but are not a good choice if you plan to stay on pavement a lot.

There are other bike types under the mountain bike umbrella but they fall into specialty categories which probably don't apply to you.

At the risk of being long-winded, I suggest that you consider going to a bike shop if for no other reason to become a bit more educated. There are things to consider such as how you are going to ride, your age, size, and ability, and other things that should be considered.

One more thing, concerning price. In the 1860s when the "safety bicycle" (had 2 wheels the same size) was introduced the average cost of a bike was $107, or more than 4 MONTHS pay. Fast forward to today and the average GOOD bike costs about $400 or 5 DAYS pay. Would I suggest you spend 4 months pay on a bike? No. How about 4 days pay on something that will last you a loooong time? Absolutely.

Huffy bikes or bike shaped objects as the brand is often referred. are Dept store junk! If you haven't bought it yet then DO NOT. You get what you pay for and I personally would not give $5 for a huffy. Most bike shops do not even want to work on these things and getting most parts for them is nearly impossible and not worth the effort. We generally turn them away as we just don't want to take the time to fix something that will most certainly break again in a week or less. Take your time and save some $ and buy a better quality bike...you wont regret that! This brand of bike is the equivalent of a pet rock from the 70's....

hmm if you were to measure a huffy bike on a scale of 1 to 10 it would be about a,hmm, a -8, yeah that sounds right
