How far should I walk a day to get in shape?

I am not overweight and don't want to lose weight, I just want to be healthier.
Right now I walk about 2.5 miles every other day because it's my only mode of transportation but it's not challenging, and I don't really consider it exercise. I enjoy walking, but I don't like to do it just for the sake of walking, so I usually say to myself "I feel like going to the mall" and then walk 1 mile there and browse but don't buy anything and walk back. My pace is pretty slow, about 25 minutes a mile, but I like to randomly start sprinting while I'm out walking, which makes people look at me like I'm mad, (and sometimes shout "run, Forrest, run!")
My problem is that I'm lazy in my head, I hate the idea of exercising for the sake of exercising but I prefer to take the stairs to the elevator anytime. How many more miles should I try to walk a day, and how out of shape am i?
I eat very healthy by the way, I'm a vegan. And I'm 17.
