How extensive is the medical screening at Navy boot camp?

My son's recruiter told him not to mention a previous shoulder surgery (among other things). He has 2 small scars on his shoulder that kinda look like cigarette burns. The 1st doctor at MEPS just said I see you have 2 scars. He will be flying to boot camp tomorrow. Is there a chance they will let him through?
