How exactly will a policeman handle a sex abuse case if I report it to them?

If my doctor sexually assaulted me, aside from taking the report and making it public information, compromising my privacy and theoretically retaliation, what EXACTLY would the police do to help me? And no I don't have evidence, it would be his word against mine. I didn't video tape him sexually assaulting me so I don't know how to have evidence after the fact. I wasn't in detective mode after the fact but instead trauamtized, not that men or police might understand this. And yes I am pissed off and angry because I don't know what to do.

If there is no evidence, it's kind of difficult. The first thing they will do is send an investigator to interview the doctor, and maybe his other female patients. Based on that, they will decide if the case is strong enough to press charges.

I would go ahead and report it. Most states have laws regarding the publicity of this type of information.
