How exactly did they tow my car?

Hi, my car was towed today from a parallel parked spot. It's a manual transmission with anti-theft alarm. When I got my car, I checked for damage, no visible damage. However, I was curious, my car was parked in 1st gear, but when I got it back, it was in neutral. Did the tow guy get into my car to put it into neutral? or did he have a tool to pop the shifter to neutral from the outside? I have anti-theft alarm, how did he break in so easily? I forgot to check if the doors were locked, when I got it back. Please enlighten me how he did it. Thanks
