how easy is it to rebuild/replace a 1995 Jeep Cherokee engine?

Im going to go buy a Jeep and i was wondering how hard it will be for me to do a rebuild, and is it hard or expensive to fix things when they go bad? and i guessing they do fairly well 4x4ing? Also is it a good daly driver?
