How does war create wealth?

It's a question for those who say WW2 got us out of the depression.

If that was true, then why don't we just spend lots of money on building weapons, army vehicles, planes etc...but don't send them anywhere....just station them in the USA. Honestly, there is no difference between doing that and sending them overseas.

Would that create wealth????

Good point. War, and other public works, cannot lift an economy.

I have always wondered if it wasn't the, relatively speaking, lack of destruction of our wealth and property as opposed to European and Asian nations that lifted us. In other words, we had competitive advantage in that our businesses, roads, factories, and homes weren't destroyed.
